presto
im getting rid of my jack an going back to some nice small colourful fish haha. was thinking of doing calb carb substrate an mounds of lava rock for hiding holes. i wanna keep number of fish on the lower side as i want tank as hassal free as possible. this is what i was thinking of stocking it with - 4-6 blue dolphins - 2-4 gold comps - 2-4 black calvus - 1 pair of humpheads - clown loaches for snail kill an general bottom cleaning. - 2 bristle nose an maybe a few princess not sure yet. any advice good or bad on this would be great cheers preston
BigPete86
Comps & Calvus could attempt to crossbreed from what I've heard/researched with my Calvus. I wanted to mix a few gold comps in with mine but decided against it due to my research. Way, way, way too many beautiful Africans to choose from to even start suggesting mixes without ending up a 5-6page post. Maybe a Cyprichromis species for mid-top water? What about going sand substrate & getting some active lil sandsifters? Set up a fair bit of rock work & have some Nigripinnis, maybe lots of hidey holes & some Julies cruising round? What about a mix of peacocks instead of (or with) the haps? Get some energy & colour at the same time. Ok I'm gonna stop now otherwise this post will be huge not to mention I'm just teasing myself & will end up with another tank or 2...
presto
im not to woried if they cross breed theyll just end up food for other fish anyway. not that keen on julies. def dont want peacocks. sand would be good but to clean enuff sand for that size tank way to much time im willing ot spend on it. BigPete86
Sandsifters keep your sand clean for ya but yeah, I know what you mean, the initial wash would suck...
Michael. thomas
I was told clown loaches don't like water parameters needed for Africans and I would spend too much effort fighting diseases. Just a thought...
twocartonsnachilliburger
I have got about 6 clown loaches in with about 70 -80 africans and they seem to thrive in there and have been for at least six months now, swimming around in there own little pack. Keeping on top of water changes etc should not have a prob. Others could have very different experiences though.
