PaleAle
Hi All, i would like some opinions please, on putting a 5" Festae, 6" RD, 4" Synspillum & 5" Escondido (all male) in a 6X2x2 without decor to minimize aggression. The RD & Festae are definitely the hard hitters here & to be honest, i'm not too worried about the other two fish so should i just keep the tank empty of decor or create a place to call home for the RD & Festae at either end of the tank. I'm thinking without territories to claim it might just work or will they eventually kill each other anyway, & one more thing, is a 5x2x2 big enough for a GT, Fronnie & Polleni to be happy in. Tanks for any input guys...
Donny@ageofaquariums
There is less structure to fight over in a bare tank......... but even just a corner can be considered something worth fighting to protect. Its certainly worth trialing it without any structure or ornaments....... but I would have some on hand that you can add if the smaller fish start getting beaten up. brwndoggy25
Thats my theory that is working for me with my 8ft. I have fish ranging in size from 5cm to 35cm, the biggest being my red dragon flowerhorn Several weeks on there is very little aggression and im very happy. PETFISH
i have found there is alot less aggression in all my troph tank's with no furniture, just spongies, still a little bit but not much.
PaleAle
Thanks for the input guys, yes even yours Donny ;. I put the RD in a 6' tank with other Ams including the Festae & a good dollop of Africans. The Festae got a bit peeved when I done this so I put him in a 4' tank to chill. Now the RD has taken over & is getting crankier by the day. I could put Uncle Festae back in to calm the RD down a bit, but that could end badly for the Festae too & I don't want that to happen & the Festae needed to be taken out of there anyway as he was starting to bully his tank mates a bit too much. I've gathered some other peoples opinions & so far the bare tank theory has not worked well for them. i've got too many bloody fish & not enough tanks. I need to buy another tank to sort out my fishy dilemma but I just don't have the time for another tank. or do I ?. Hmmmmmnnn.. Yodapwnsasmurf
Invest in some dividers, that way you can have all the fish in the same tank with no worries at all haha!
PaleAle
I think dividers have there place Yoda, but not as a permanent fixture. Poor little 20" Red Terror in a 3x2x2 space just don't sound right.

Wraithie
Yes less to fight over, but also less hiding places for the victims
PaleAle
I think a bare tank works better for mbunas but Americans just get too big & need more room to feel comfortable wether theirs decor or not.
