Michael. thomas
I recently threw a couple of bits of par cooked sweet potato in for my big pleco to have a go at. The next morning... devastation. 5 big clown loaches (20cm+) all dead. Not real happy. Any one got any ideas why??
tutters187
Cooking it was probably it mate. I've used it raw in tanks no probs. Did you microwave it? Once cooked it might have disintegrated. Do you have a water test?
Donny@ageofaquariums
yep tutters has the answer. When soft foods like pumpkin and sweet potato, totally disintergrate under feeder. And then it all rots. This = a massive ammonia spike AND all the oxygen being ripped from the water by the resulting bacteria bloom. I killed all the wifes peppermint breeders doing something similar.
Michael. thomas
only just cooked- didn't disintegrate. It was still whole and pretty solid in the morning when I scooped it out very very quickly.. with my dead clownies... still... I won't be cooking it again. I did a big water change before work without testing water but I will have a look at the water today. I generally par cook zucchini (still hardish but dense enough to sink) to help it sink to the bottom... is this not a good idea? z240
I never cook any veggies, sink with a fork. Remove after a few hours & when you can see it going soft. All Good.
Donny@ageofaquariums
If it didnt disintergrate...... then I dunno. I know they are starchy, but wouldnt expect deaths from starch.
