DanesFish
I use to use tap water which was generally very soft but since I've moved the tap water is very hard and I doubt is suitable to use but I do have a rain water tank. So is this a good or bad idea..?
DanesFish
What if I filter the rain water through activated carbon and then leave in coral bone to raise the pH by only aiding in KH which is good for reefs..
bluebelle
Rainwater is fine, I use nothing else in my 5 tanks ( no town water where I live), but you will have to use a water conditioner. No need to filter unless your roof is very dirty or you live near an industrial area with factories. Otherwise use half rainwater, half town water. DanesFish
You have marine aquariums yes ???
DanesFish
I guess by adding half town water I will be supplementing my reef with minerals and nutrients at the same time. As I recently found that some people NEVER WC their reef aquariums and only top off from evaporation.
Donny@ageofaquariums
Water changing has a lot of benefits. even just small ones depends on rainwater quality, which depends on the roof and tank but its usually ok if you are worried disolve a little bit of KH generator or pH up in it first

DanesFish
I'm only stressing out because the Internet has strong advice not to use rainwater on marine aquariums I realise most risks involved and even though I'm not really the gambling type I honestly feel this is a good idea if executed correctly. The longer I own a reef the simpler it seems to be over freshwater systems well atleasted overstocked FW lol
