cat fish health

Recommended Posts

hey guys

my bristle-nose's (various variety's) seem to have a gold dust over them, is this normal? i mean its very fine and you need to look hard, one of the peeps its more a whitish dust, does not at all look like the white spot though.

and my Corys, some of there fins are getting tatty, not massively torn or damaged, just sort of crappy looking at the ends.

all water tests are within in limits.

any ideas guys?

regards

Bryan

This one sounds like it is starting to get around and not a nice one. Apparently none of the off the shelf medications work that anyone is aware of.

There has been a couple of reports of fixing it by getting the fish and holding it in a Methelene Blue bath for about 10 seconds and then popping it into some normal tank water then into a salt bath and wiped down with a chucks and it should wipe off then give the fish a good dose of aquasonic protect or stressguard or something that is going to help put the slime coat back. The reports that I have heard seems to only affect the catties at this stage.

Good luck.

Techy, jeez i hope its not too bad. all fish seem happy as and feeding well. is it terminal if not treated?

Thatsright, thanks for the pic, its defiantly alot finer, you cant see individual spots if that makes sense? it like a gold mother of pearl, with a shimmer.

ive plenty of high strength protozin here, should i hit them with a lap of that just in case?

thanks guys

I do not think your BN will be with copper sulphate.

One of the things that they found was the the fish would act normal and no clamping of fins or anything and then die - it is believed that it is due to the gold spots covering the gills and causing death from suffercation.

If you have a really close look and see if you can see it in places like the gills and on the eyes.

I bought an l168 a while back and since then I've had nuthin but trouble.

I've read on some other sites that mine may in fact just be normal? Shining a torch on them makes it really stand out. I tried to take a picture but just couldn't get the gold in the pic. Do you have a pic of the condition you are describing techy?

Thanks

Bryan

Thanks mate, I guess I just wait and hope. My wife has a fan-dangled camera, I'll see if she can get picture.

I'd have to strip my entire tank to catch each one individually. This hobby is frustrating to say the least at times :)

Cheers

yeah i had the same thing :(

http://www.qldaf.com/forums/general-aquarium-discussion-19/disheartened-93954/

i used some of The Tech Den meds Aquasonic Formalin Malachite 1 Liter (White Spot)

and has beaten it, however i did see a pep today with a light colour of skin on its nose (i really hope it is healing not it coming back again) but all of the others are back to normal health so i really really hope it is the healing and nothing else.

i lost 2 mature peps and around 8-9 juvies and it almost broke me, however from the kindness of the fourm and the spot it might be velvet really helped me and i hope i am back :)

Glad you got it sorted yoshi, there are some wonderful people here. Did yours have the gold shimmer to them?

I got a poor pic of one of my lnumbers, I'll try tonight with wife's camerapost-7761-14711629426007_thumb.jpg

You can just see it towards the tail.

I would not think that would be a good way of doing it but to be sure I will get in contact with our Rep at Aquasonic and if he does not know which would be unusual he also has some savvy tech people in the back end he can refer it to so that you get a good information from the manufacturer.

Lippa

Had a chat to our friends at Aquasonic and our Rep suggested to try the Pro Bio first and do not use it in conjunction with the Formalin as it is will kill the Pro Bio.

Also the usual applies to remove the Carbon/Chemical filtration and turn off UV and you may choose to up the temp a degree or two.

It is not quick fix but should start to show results in a week or so and you need to be a little patient with it.

Thanks mate, I placed an order last night for the bio plus and formalin plus hikari. Will that get out today? I had to do something so I've given the tank a half strength hit of protozin. Should I do a water change before putting in the bio plus?

Regards

Bryan
