Ice
Hi all. We have just set up our first tank. Cycled for 3 weeks and all tests are good. We put 6 fish in yesterday and checked the Amonia levels today and we are now at .25. Is this ok or do we need to add something?
beencees
Sounds like your bio isn't seeded yet. What type of filter are you using?
HannibalsMum
just wait a couple of days before adding anymore fish. what fish do you have also as some poduce alot of waste an that may also be a reason for the higher amonia level. goneself
What do you mean by 'cycled'? The bacteria need to have something to eat for the filter to cycle, just running the tank with water won't do the job.
cichlidbro
been keeping cichlids for 20+ years and am only now partially ignorant. from what I know(which according to the wife ain't much!) new tank needs fish to cycle OR.. some bio balls from a friend's set-up or something like that. It's how it's worked for me. However, when I first started the dude at my LFS gave me a handful of substrate to put in my filter to get things going. It worked for me but you're also listening to a guy who never bought one test kit.(just don't tell anyone else here I said that)
HannibalsMum
yea, you def need media from another tank. prity much the good bugs help with keeping your tank healthy. if you have a friend that can help with that, great other wise go to AOA an see the guys there, they may be able to help you with bio in a bottle.
