Lionel, and Mr Pet, and all other members for that matter......... I have had discussions with Stacey and Jeff about fire fin ID, it is not about repect of you or any other members, but the fact I know these guys on the ID of this fish.

Lionel if you want to come and have a look at my 3 young ones, I would appreciate the opinion.

kasman, that is my worry as mine are from the same source as goldenswimmers

yeh I remember thinking it at the time that they didnt look like firefins, but im no expert so thought it better to keep my mouth shut lol.

But Brents no fool so im sure they are fire's ginger. Maybe it is a colouration thats comes with maturity or breeding?

just my opinion but seems to be a bit more yellow in this fella....on the body face etc.....ive also noticed the edging of the fins is different...my guys have a dark edging to their fins and I have noticed at times in the right light that you can see a reddish colour starting to come through on the fin tips...Im pretty sure this red colouration on the fin tips is the real give away...I think body colouration wise firefins might not be as yellow...more a tan/light brown colour...just my 5c/opinion....and it would be good to see some pics from the guys who have some adult firefins so we could compare....

one of my little guys..

Did u get to see the parents of yours goldy?

I totally can see the subtle differences with ur fish. Damn hard variaton to spot in youngns as fish can look different under certain substrate, ligthting and stress.

unfortunately I didn't mate as they are sourced from Sydney.....I agree Mat as I reckon some of these young comp. varieties are hard to identify at a young age.....

And just for your own "piece of mind" ginger...do you remember there was also a normal gold comp in the tank with the firefins??????...you could definitely see the difference and did you notice how much more yellow the normal comp was???....the firefins seemed a lot lighter in body colour but stronger with markings and fin edge colouration...
