I have just redone my nano marine tank & I'm needing just a little bit more sand substrate. I have used saltwater live sand and I have some fresh water live sand leftover from another tank. My question is, is it ok to put the freshwater live sand into a marine tank?

Cheers.

It makes no difference over all.

The life that cannot with stand the change over to salt water coming from freshwater will die and the life that is in the saltwater suitable sand will spread out and take over all of the sand.

A slight ammonia rise is all that will happen.

Make sure the sand from the freshwater environment has no metal granules with in it by running a magnet through all of the sand while it is in water, any metal will be attached to the magnet each time you lift it up to clean it off and go again and a again until there are no granules attaching.

Only about 1-2 kg. I would just like the sand a bit deeper as I left the original coral rubble in the bottom of the tank, put fly screen over it & then the sand. I have 2 red handed shrimp that keep digging out the corners & exposing the fly screen. :pout:
