Daydream Posted September 1, 2013 Report Share Posted September 1, 2013 Depends on set up and stockingWould use external canister for planted tank my self and sump for Africans or Americans.Will 90% of the time be quieter to run a canister.The main add vantage of a sump is a larger bacterial bed which in turn gives you higher stocking levels.
