th3f0rg0t3n
i have a few "fussy" fishy children that will simply NOT look at any form of pellet or many different frozen variety foods, however, they have taken to salmon fillet's like a duck to water, and just lap the stuff up like its going out of fashion!! and @ $35 per kilo, i sure hope its full of beneficial nutrients and vitamins hahaha, anyone else have fussy fish that just choose/enjoy to eat everything but what you would ideally like them too ? my varied dieting has only become a high priority since HIKARI KRILL seems to be at an australian shortage and ive stretched all other avenues, cmon hikari give us more krill
th3f0rg0t3n
not to mention green prawns are most certainly off my feeding list after learning they are ALL dipped in "Methyl Bisulphide" before being brought into port, good old tweed bait, now thats a safe feed,
hareysfish
The methylbisulphide that the prawns are dipped in is only a preservative, if you eat bread , then you are eating it. I feed my fish green prawn heads all the time , with no problems, and are cheaper then $35kg.
JayPee
Have you tried basa filets. Much cheaper then salmon.
AussieDIYFK
sashimi grade tuna, tassie salmon and king fish with flying fish roe is what i like to eat with abit of freashly grated wasabi and soy, but hold off on the wasabi for the fishies :-)
PeterJ
I make up my own food that includes home brand tinned salmon.
th3f0rg0t3n
rather not feed my pets somthing that has anything to do with sulfuric acid - Methyl Bisulphide and struggle to understand what prawn heads do for your fish, or what type of fish you might be feeding that too ?? salmon-tail catfish maybe but yeah lol. @JP, i've got basa on my list to try feeding, and my local fish shop didn't stock it when i last visited i think i might have to try woolies or something where do you get it from ?? JayPee
I buy my basa from a contact. I buy it in 5 kg box for about $25. Works out nice and cheap.
Gringox
My Saratoga wouldn't touch any pellets (massivore, carnisticks etc) so he lived on bloodworms for a while. A couple of weeks ago I bought some Aquamunch Colour Advance for my Africans and thought I may aswell chuck some in the toga's tank. He went nuts! Now at feed time he takes the pellets out of my hand before I can drop them.
hareysfish
I'd rather feed my fish things that I know are fresh and caught in Aussie waters, unlike bassa which is a Taiwanese catfish bred and grown in sewage ponds and I feed it to all of my Africans as well as natives. Would this have the same label as not to be fed to aquatic animals/use as bait?
th3f0rg0t3n
mixed reviews, ill stick to the salmon fillets i think, price isn't an issue, the quality of the food is though so maybe leave basa at this stage, plus local fish shop or woolies didn't have it lol,
hareysfish
Don't know litigator, I only buy Aussie seafood, all straight ofthe boats, so I know where it comes from, being , imported, I'd imagine it probably, as well as vannemi prawns. litigator666
1kg salmon cuts pack on sale in woolies- $20 only. Good treat for fish. Its imported but doesnt have the warning label (for human consumption only). I think the warning only applies to cheaper seafood like prawns and marinara.
