fishkeeper101
Hi all i recently bought a male and female betta and they are in a breeding tank at the noment seperated. The males bubble nest is on its way to completion, just needs to be a little better. But the female is startingto blow bubbles and it looks like a nest. She is a proven female as the guy showed me him and her in his breeder tank and the dad had fry. Is it normal for a female to try and make a nest as well it is no where near the size of the males. pk333
First I've heard of it. But I've only been around Bettas for a short time.
DeagonTheo
It's normal I had a female that built a better nest than the male. I had a partitioned tank with a small hole in the partition, after the pair had laid the eggs, I took the female out and put her on the other side. Some of the fry went through the hole and the female built a nest and picked up the fry and spat them into her own nest, pretty amazing stuff. If she's building a nest check out her belly for a white breeding tube, if she has one she's ready to breed.

leah
We've had females blow small bubble nests before, but its not a common thing.
fishkeeper101
Ok thanks i had to move them to a better and bigger tank as the old one was in an awkward spot. Is this going to stress them out? He has started building a net again so is this a good indication that he is not too stressed out.
Vasalissa
Females do build nests or at least help to build nests I have had this before also and red about it a few times. Also if you have moved them to a new tank you may have to start the process again as it can be quite stressful but he sounds pretty good.
