And that's the real shame of it because it could be a great forum except for the nazi attitude of the mods. They turn alot of people away who could contribute a wealth of knowledge. They delude themselves into believing their own righteousness but frankly their methods are indefensible and in the end it's the members who miss out. Agreed in some regards, but some things I believe they do better than here. For example the rule that you need pics of actual item for sale when selling something... Several times I have gone to buy an item I saw advertised on here but then to find it completely not what I was looking for. Went to buy an FX5 which was described to be in "great condition no leaks". Only to get there and see a huge bloody crack in one of the taps. Not to mention all the driftwood adds on here with no pics. Like what are they selling? A stick? A log? Some gold vine? A bloody sleeper from bunnings? netty_3164 Posted September 25, 2013 Report Share Posted September 25, 2013 Yeah I had to laugh at the stories of multiple usernames for people to give themselves endorsements & recognition for great stock & service, very sad indeed, lol As with most forum that have a classified area, it usually happens.... even on QLDAF Anyhow, I'm with Zane here, I for one value the vast amount of knowledge and experience on there. I haven't come across any issues with the mods myself and don't see how the rules aren't reasonable? In my experience, it has been a pleasure to chat/trade/sell with the mods there. I'm also grateful to have been associated with some of those mods and members who were the ones who I learn a great deal from and were also responsible for kicking off the hobby for me, again with their shared knowledge & extremely generous offers for the young wee 14yo lad when I first joined that forum... Total bummer because I had a specific issue and google's top search was a forum thread I was eager to read. I agree there is a wealth of knowledge in the archives on that forum - and many of the members are gurus at planted set ups/nano tanks, which seems to be an area that is less popular here. Most of the links here seem to be about giant tanks with africans, and lots of hardscapes, which is fine, but I still like having access to the other forum for the other stuff. I have noticed for awhile on Aquariumlife there has been a really weird attitude about natives being "all important" and all other fish/shrimp etc being pure evil, which I found at times borderline offensive and I've noticed now the invertebrates section was relabeled something like "Shrimp, snails and all other non native shrimp" as though non native shrimp needed to be recognized and pointed out especially because they were not natives (=pure evil). I've never personally clashed with the mods over anything, but i have noticed one or two of them are particularly belligerent (but not all!), and I've been saddened by the fighting and the loss of some members who were quite valuable... and I'm glad to see a few familiar people on here instead! This is my first post since joining this forum and the one thing that stopped my commenting earlier was the number of posts denigrating the Admin of A/life forums............I have no doubt that for one reason or another some people are probably justified in being pee'd off but what I found disturbing (as a long time mod on audio recording forums) was what appeared to be the acceptance by the Admin of this forum of the somewhat vitriolic comments directed at A/life.
