Resealing a tank

Recommended Posts

Hi all

While I was away on holidays my 6ft tank started leaking, luckily I had someone staying at my place house sitting and they managed to get a 4ft tank and transfer my fish and empty the 6fter.

My question is do I have to pull the whole tank apart or do I just cut the old silicon away and re do????

Cheers

Adrian

You'll have to do the whole thing mate, old silicon doesn't adhere too well to fresh silicon and it'll only be a matter of time before it goes again. I'm sure people have gotten away with it and I'm sure people will tell you it's ok but a re-seal is the correct way and will ensure its water tight for years to come

I see what you mean, I think the person who owned it before me just resealed it all around on the inside but like I said it started leaking

Bugger :faint:

I once tried to completely pull a tank apart and redo and lets just say I dont have that tank anymore lol.

Is there anyone who re does tanks and how much would I be looking at

Im willing to pull it apart and clean it all up but it was the putting it back together where I struggled

Cheers

Hi Adrian,

Mike (cichlidwife) is very good at rebuilding/resealing tanks, you might want to ask him.

Also, as mq_camo mentioned there are some very good step by step articles in the DIY section.

Cheers,

Andrew
