In 2 weeks my missus will be getting breeding pair of L134 (Leopard frog plecos) was just wonder what everyone recommends for heaters will be in a normal 2 foot (should I put them in a bigger tank) what type of breeding log do they need just asking as I am buying her a new set up for them as we came home and all her other bristlenose were dead (70+) due to heater broke and the temperature kept climbing (45○c) she was very upset and now wants to replace all our heaters

Thanks :noidea:

If you want quality then go for something like a Jäger heater. I also run a temperature controller ($18 ) on one of my tanks that runs a chiller in summer. The temp controller will not let your heater cook your tank if it fails. Cheap insurance if you're worried about it happening again. Was it a cheapo heater that failed?

Aqua one is a crappy brand I'm sorry to say, I have had one do the same and overheat the tank and 2 just completely fail. I have 6 tanks all with eheim jagers, never had a problem, better on electricity and worth the extra coin. Do not buy aquaone even if it's the thermosafe kind, still crap.

I'm the opposite, i hate jager and prefer aqua one. i would buy blue planet before i buy jager again.

i have had more than 2 dozen jagers fail and they usually cook, i have been replacing jagers for aqua one's for the last couple of years, I have had a few aqua one's fail as well but they just stopped working instead of making me some fish soup.

what size was the heater and what size was the tank the bristle nose were in, was the heater the appropriate size for tank?

I have never bothered heating bristle nose and it didn't seem to bother them or the the fry.

any heater you put in your tank has the potential to fail in a number of ways, its probably cheaper to buy a bunch of $18 temperature controllers than replace all your heaters just cause one failed, still I'm sure if you talk to enough people someone will have a story where the temp controller failed as well.

At the end of the day equipment failure is just part of the hobby and LIFE, isn't that right fella's... can I get an Amen

I have had every type and brand of heaters there is to have over the years and to be honest NOT ONE brand stands out as better than the others.

Yes there are some cheap brands that are not 100% waterproof that I will not buy.

And every brand will blow up on you at some stage.

But I will use whatever is available.

I leave my heaters on all year round, except for the ones I use in the show tanks. The show heaters are the ones that usually cause the most trouble because they only get used a couple of time a year.

I bought one of the new Titan heaters in april and it blew up after a water change a couple of weeks ago so put an 10 year old 300w sand filled heater in it place and it is working fine.

I will take it back when I get a chance.

Like the idea of have a temperature controller to turn the power off if the heat gets too high. That way you would never cook fish again.
