michaelandbrittany
So just seeing when everyone thinks I should take my heater out. It's starting to get hot as f**k. It's an African community tank. It doesn't get any direct sunlight, but my place is pretty warm.
flatfish
Why take it out? If its over the set temp it wont turn on anyways
Chris Tschumy
Leave it in. Should hardly be working when it is hot
michaelandbrittany
Yer true, just figured that it would be one less eye sore in the tank haha.
Bully
If u take the heaters out over summer they tend not to work as good if at all next time u put them in, so as said above leave it in would be best bet, just pull it out of power point if u feel the need.. Shanoz
Bully is spot on, just unplug it and leave it in there otherwise it won't ever work properly again! Also like the others said, it has a thermostat, so once it reaches its desired temp it should switch itself off unless your heater is stuffed! Kaizen088
Agreed with all of the above, just leave it in there. I'd leave it on just in case there is a cold snap. $18 will get you a temperature controller (ebay from Hong Kong) that will work as a second thermostat if you're worried about it failing and cooking your fish. zorbadundee
Mines in my sump and already un plugged a thermometer will give a better reading than any heater and I have seen them turn on for no reason I would rather not waste power @ 300w and my temp hasn’t dropt below 26% the last 3 weeks, I have on the other hand almost needed to place some ice in the tank as the garage gets hot.
