grant.long
Thought I'd share my experience on the Seneye home monitor. Well so far it's like AHHHHH you piece of sh*t. 1. So i install the software and the installer freezes on the welcome screen. 2. I wait hours for there return email to patch the error. 3. Problem was there software had files missing. So i had to manually add them in. 4. Got the installer to work and now the Seneye won't sync with the server or talk to the internet. 5. Waiting and still waiting 12hours later for Seneye to advise on the errors that are appearing. 6. I HOPE ALL OF THIS IS WORTH THE STUFFING AROUND BECAUSE SO FAR I'M NOT IMPRESSED. Anyone else had these problems or any other issues with the Seneye? Cheers
tanya70
Hi Grant, I have one, been using it for 8 months now and its been good. I must admit the software used to freeze when i plugged it into my old laptop, but it could have been the laptop as soon as i changed over to a new one its been working fine. I did email them and at least they respond to emails unlike some other companies. I downloaded the software directly from the seneye website. I find it is certainly of some benefit, especially if you keep valuable fish and are often working away from home, but if your system is mature and stable you have nothing to worry about anyway
grant.long
Thanks for the input. My laptop is hi-tec so i'm sure that's not the problem and yes i do work away from home quiet often so i guess when its up and running it will bring me some peace of mind when i'm away as the wife isn't to keen on learning anything about fish except what to feed them. grant.long
If you buy a seneye expect installation issue's. i had to manually install there software as there files come across as locked files. i will say the seneye support team did respond to my queries on an average of about 12 hours. Donny@ageofaquariums
12 hours isnt so bad really as they are yanks, so on a different time zone as us. Over all customer feedback on these has been possitive. They certainly aint perfect....... for that you get an Apex Neptune controller. buuuuuuuuuuut thats a tad more expensive. Dfiant
They are Poms actually Donny. I have been using a Seneye Reef and a Seneye Home for the last 10 months. The reading can vary wildly from Slide to slide, even from day to day (I had an ammonia spike according to seneye in my 12 month Reef Setup, manual testing 3 times confirmed Ammonia at 0), there is no consistency in the results at all let alone manual testing regularly confirms that the equipment is below par. The software is atrocious and works no better on Windows 7 or 8, in fact is actually makes the entire windows 8 environment unstable. I could not recommend this product to anyone as you will end up falling back on more reliable traditional testing of parameters

grant.long
Once the installation process is done and the server is updating automatically its quite good.
Dfiant
Just to add to what I said of my previous experiences. I have contacted Seneye via their webpage, it took them 5 days to 'find' the email because the email account advertised on their website isn't monitored and it was only 'by chance' that one of the people checked the account and found my email.I have had some contact and communicated with them the problems and they said they were going to check the online logs and see what was going on and then they would get back to me and have a chat...that was 5 weeks ago, 2 weeks ago I sent an email asking for an update...not a word has been heard from them in 5 weeks. I was getting reading of upto 0.50 for Ammonia and then tested with my kit and got readings of zero, the pH would read 6.5 when it was 7.2. The readings would vary wildly with the installation of each new slide which you have to do EVERY month at the coast of $10 per slide. That was the Seneye Home in my tropical tank. In my reef tank the Seneye Reef would barely read anything. there would be a slight elevation in Ammonia for example and the Seneye would not even detect it when it should have. The pH reading were always incorrect and I have had that verified more than once at a couple of shops. So in 12 months with 2 Seneye units including the initial expense of the units, I have spent roughly $570...there are better options for that sort of expense. Steer clear, they are wildly inaccurate, the after sales service is disgusting, they tell you what you want to hear and just hope that you go away. Karen
Sorry to hear that you bought such garbage Dfiant, but thank you for sharing I have been looking at buying a couple for a while but waiting for the extras to be added, as they were more important to me. So popped in to their supplier AOA , they knew less then I did?? Not bagging AOA as they are normally great but I could only learn what was happening from seneye website. which sounded exciting, but that was 12 months ago and no more updates on the gear. Guess they don't even keep their suppliers in the loop if there is one!! sorry for your loss but thanks for putting it out there to save others the expense and disappointment
Dfiant
Well that would speak volumes if suppliers are shrugging their shoulders when asked questions about a product. It's not the first business I have heard that are in the dark with Seneye not supporting their own product let alone offering after sales service. The Tech Den
Perhaps Donny@ageofaquariums or ageofaquariums might be able to give some information here and on the aquatronica's, they did look pretty good for the kits but I do not know how they would go with operating systems like Windows 8?? The hub and power supplies seemed pretty good and might be a bit exy by the time you kit it all but will depend on the sensors up but might be a good option. I think Seneye was also taking about adding the Gh and Kh to the slide capabilities but I do not know what happened to that.
Donny@ageofaquariums
What did you want to know about the seneye Karen ? Release dates on new products are at best rough estimates with almost every aquarium company unfortunately. AOA is a retailer, we buy from a distributor, who buys them from the supplier. So we are a few steps away from the top secret board meetings on new products from seneye. But we are always happy to pass questions up the food chain XD

Age of Aquariums - Neptune Apex AquaController Starter Kit - Pre order for delivery late November 2013 Not sure if all the pre-orders have been filled, but someone may have pulled out. Check out the official forum http://forum.neptunesystems.com/forum.php And then join the rest of us impatiently waiting for it. not long now!!!!!!!!!!! The aquatronica, apex and other controllers are in a different price scale to the seneye. Donny@ageofaquariums
The Neptune has taken my eye and I am keen to see how it goes when people start using them. Its already the most popular unit of its type in the world, just that like most things, it take ages to reach the Australian market. We have very strict guidlines on electrical equipment here, thus most companies have to create a special version of their product for the Australian market. Most of them get around to doing it eventually, but its easier for them to pretty much saturate every other market in the world first......... then turn to us. But yep, I am excited to see how aussies and kiwis employ them as well. Literally thousands of different options. If xboxOne didnt just launch I'd definitely have one in me xmas stocking! As it is, will have to wait until next year.
Karen
haha I would look at one but you guys have got me really interested in this xbox1,(I still have a Wii that never gets used lol) but am I still able to pick up one for a xmas present for my wonderful nephews or are the orders far ahead ? Karen
Disregard my last message as whilst if they got one for xmas apparently their xbox games are not compatible, thanks anyway guys
Dfiant
Another update...Seneye have declared both of my Seneye units to be faulty and have decided to replace both units and offered me free slides as well. It is just unfortunate that I had to spend so much of my time chasing up the fault over the last 2 months, if I wanted and answer I literally had to hound them or they wouldn't have gotten back to me, so very disappointing customer service. On the units themself, I don't have high hopes, I will not be resting my laurels on the readings they give, as I believe that the Seneye should only be used as a lose guide and not relied upon and regular manual testing should also take place along side the use of the Seneye if not to just confirm that the Seneye unit is still working the way it should. Seneye is not a pemium product and at the price it is, it will never be a premium product. I would shy away completely from using them in an expensive Marine/Reef system, but still use them as an 'INDICATOR' only in ponds and tropical tanks....but as I said, back up the data from Seneye with Weekly manual testing and you will have yourself covered
