dna
Hey guys im setting up an African display tank and Im keen on a Malawi hawk(Aristochromis christyi ), can anyone tell me if he will eat the smaller fish or is it a trial an error thing? also can they live on pellets and frozen food etc because I don't like using feeder fish? any help on this would be greatly appreciated. P.s. Does anyone have some of these for sale or know where I could get some?
goldenswimmers
Hey mate....yeah a big NO NO for keeping with the little guys...Christyi can split their mouth 4 ways..think of predator the movie... and can take fish bigger than it appears...yep no worries with QUALLITY frozen food and pellets...id probably let the frozen stuff thaw first..drain off excess liquid then feed(keep that water cleaner)...but yep a high quality pellet...Id personally recommend hikari or NLS for these guys...I say you want quality fish..give them quality food..and a varied diet..if you are keen to breed later on..I would really recommend safe clean live feeders though as this seems to really get the girls sized up and ready to breed...the "hunting" also I think inspires their mojo!!!!!. Hope this helps mate and they are out there mate..Ive kept and bred these guys before and will so again in the future...in my opinion the Malawi hawks are one of the nicest fish going and have such unique personalities...worth the hunt mate
