TheRedKing
Hello everybody, My tank is 4ft 200 litres, well planted with a Eheim 2217 filter. My stock plan so far is this: -12 Black Phantom Tetra -12 Emperor Tetra -2 Bristlenose -2 Royal Whiptail -6 or 8 Sterbai Corydoras (not sure if 8 will be too much for bottom feeders) -Cherry Shrimp (will grow up heaps of java moss for the critters and have the tank heavily planted) What do you chumps think about this? Should I add something for the top-mid level? If so I would like it to be a species from the Americas to suit the theme and which won't absolutely obliterate the adult cherry shrimp! So far I have one tiny bristlenose and 6 phantoms (2 males 4 females), all very lively, eating and still the levels are where they should be (0 Nitrite & Ammonia, 5-10 Nitrates) Really appreciate this! mr2mark
Im certainly no expert but seems like you have a solid plan to me. Like you I was worried my cherry shrimp would be decimated by fish, but they seem fine even with my red and blue columbian tetra (which are about the same size as black phantoms I gather). I dont know about cories with shrimplets? If you need to add anything cant go past rummynose tetra IMO. The are the best schooling fish and in keeping with your american them. Are your shrimp afraid with your tetras or are they quite active? Anyone else wanna comment on my setup? I don't trust asking my lfs because their job is to get me to buy as much as possible so you guys gotta help me!
mr2mark
The shrimp arnt afraid at all! Sometimes they get spooked for whatever reason and 'buck' and that lightning movement attracts fish but no hassles. Sometimes Ill have put in a little zucchini and/or spirulina wafers and the shrimp will be absolutely covering these at the same time as tetra nibble the sides or my peppermint is grazing as well. Somehow they all get along, at least when I am watching and the lights are on.

I imagine the shrimplets are open for consumption because they are just so small. What have you done to counter it so the gain is greater than the loss of shrimp? So many questions haha Also bump for opinions on my stock list at the top!
mr2mark
I started with 20 cherry shrimp or so of varying sizes and there are now hundreds. I should trade different stock to expand their gene pool. They started in a 4 foot with just long val and elodea and did ok. That tank went to the balcony after I bought a 6 foot and there are heaps still in there. 6 foot has a area of dwarf hairgrass and a moss wall the shrimplets especially enjoy.
