lilly1958
My daughter just sprayed bug spay around & I'm sure some has gotten into my shrimp tanks. The shrimp are swimming around like crazy & now a few have died. I have done a 50% water change with RO water what else can I do. I don't want them all to died. Trevor4551
Throw some carbon in the tank if you have some, it will help to remove chemical .
lilly1958
Thanks Trevor but I don't have any carbon.
beencees
Firstly, kick your daughters butt. Do you have somewhere you can put them temporarily? If so maybe move them and flush their tank with RO and then refill it and add some Prime/Fraction.
lilly1958
Can't really blame her. She didn't know & it was a dam BIG spider. I've lost half my Blue Velvets & sunkist, 5 of one 10 of the other so I've removed them from the tank into a bucket. Put them in another room with an airstone in the bucket so I'll see how they go. I have run out of RO so I've emptied the tanks & I'll go get more RO first thing in the morning. One of the dead blue velvets was a berried female.. Not a happy camper. lilly1958
Thanks, I would have thought the screaming would have killed it but spiders are obviously deaf. Next best thing 1/2 can surface spray.
kitmini
Tell her next time they are cool spiders cause they eat the cockies and don't make webs . We have a couple in our fish room .
goneself
Exactly..you know how many cockroaches that spider has probably knocked off for you? Karma, says I.
Daydream
Add geo liquid It will cloud the water then go clear and chemicals are gone best thing is you cant od with geo liquid so a heavy dose works quicker
bluebelle
Prevention is better then cure: always keep your tanks covered!
goneself
And if you dont have 'easy life' in your shrimp tank, do that. Cant reccomend it enough.
aquaholic99
Its a harmless spider. .. and the best way to stop them is to already have a bigger one... but screaming is a good idea when your stuck. Thats what I do when noone is around.

lilly1958
She has just spent the last almost 2 years working in the UK where the spiders are really small. I'd forgotten how piercing her screams could be.... It did get her back. It dragged it's self half dead into her bedroom & disappeared. She had to spend the next 1/2 hr finding it. I keep lids on all my tanks but as I use sponge filters the air pump must have sucked the chemicals in. Do I use the standard dose of easy life goneself?
