Nafe420
Probably a simple question and has been answered before but I'm currently soaking 3 large pieces of driftwood and curious as to whether the water really needs to be changed so often. I'm emptying the dark water and refilling every 3 days. So will the water only hold a certain amount of tannins or is it ok to leave it a week or two? If it speeds up the process then I'm not too bothered as I'm in no rush otherwise Id work out a boiling strategy. Thanks
pony-tail
I change the water weekly on the logs - re-using the water off my water changes . Not without risks but water rates must be considered .
mq_camo
Just put them in the tank and whack a bag of purigen in your filter an you'll see no tannins
aquaholic99
If the wood is not too large, you can stick it in your toilet cistern as this water gets changed daily anyway.
Nafe420
Cheers guys, think I'll just keep going the way I am, 2 of them are over 2ft long, no rush, just need them for when I set my 6x2x2.5 up in a few weeks.

Nafe420
So I've soaked these 3 pieces for 3 weeks changing the water in the container every 3 days, stuck them in the bath tub in hot water then let soak for 48 hours and then filled with hot water again 24 hours ago. Definitely haven't released as much tannins as in the first soak. Setting up my 6ft this weekend and adding these pieces so hopefully shouldn't be too bad. Don't mind a bit of discoloration, just dont want it being like tea after a week haha After last 24hr soak Tank i'm setting up at the moment
Lictoga
Looking good, nice back ground btw, is there something you can put in the filter like activated carbon, or a water polisher?
Nafe420
Yea going to cycle it for a few days and then put a carbon pack and polishing pad in the fx5 when I clean the sponges cos at the moment it's jam packed full of media. Yea thanks, should look nice once it's finished.
