The lid is cleverly made - it's a trifold to allow a lot of access to the top. Easily lift on and off with two people. My wife and I have no trouble with it. It has been stained with the colour 'Wenge'. You can easily sand and re-stain to any colour or leave raw. PRICE: FREEEEEE!!!!! Here's a few pics...
