~Craig~
We lost a frontosa a few weeks ago, now this one looking sad. Sitting at the bottom of tank and almost breathing rapidly ,could she have been hassled by another fish? Gill area a little red but unsure if that always like that. Water changes weekly, water tests perfect, all other fish happy. Really concerned as we never lose any fish. 8.0 ph 0 ppm of nitrate , nitrite, ammonia. Just did another water change and added rift lake salt. Temp is on 27-28 constant. Very stable tank help please , thanks
shon982
Water temperature seems pretty high, Is there a colony of them? are they eating?
~Craig~
They are mate, this one having trouble isn't tho. I've always been told to have the tank at 27-28. I could lower it. It is on 27.1 now
~Craig~
5 only in the tank, all juveniles around 8-10 cm long. It's in a display with other fish
shon982
Has it got a skinny or fat belly? Does it have trouble staying up? Lake tanganyika is 24 degrees, probably less where frontosa are from - deeper down
~Craig~
It has leant over a little this morning but seems pretty stable tho, it will swim well if another fish comes in close range, breathing a little rapidly , just dropped the heat back a bit although the thermostat has been sating of most the time lately . lloydashton
Any chance of a picture of the gills? Water temp is fine. Do you have much surface agitation or airstones in the tank. Keep the tank well oxygenated. Is there much aggression between the frontosa? What else do you keep them with.
aqc247
Sorry to hear this Craig: good advice already by Shon & Lloyd. They should be more active with the warmer temps, old enough to jostle for hierachy. Look for ragged fins or a 'deflated' flat belly as it could have copped a hit and sustained damage to the swim bladder. It'll look like a big striped goby then lol May have to isolate to let her recover. Put some cover in for the rest to hide assuming there is an aggressor? ~Craig~
The hard part is there is no aggression, no sign of i. Or any reason?? Sorry to bother you guys
~Craig~
Poor girl died? Don't know if was. Swim bladder issue? The fish looked perfect when it fetched her out
