tasswell
I've wanted to get some red cap oranda for a while and managed to finally get 4 today - hopefully get a pond for them one day - but have them in a holding tank for now. How do you sex oranda? Here's a few pics.
netty_3164
They'll look great in a pond, check out these fancies including the red cap being kept outdoors Re. sexing, venting for me seems to be the most accurate method. The female's vent will look like there is a bubble sticking out of her butt whereas the male will have a normal 'caved in' butt. There's the exception though, especially when the female has breed a few times before and the males were rough enough to damage at this area. White pimple like tubercles on the gill plates and pectoral are best method of determining males from females but these pimples usually only appear when it is breeding season.
