Ken-f
Anyone have any advice to keep tanks warm during this power outage? Been off since lunch but I've had the generator on. It's too noisy to leave on now so I'm trying to keep the tanks warm. I made some glass lids and closed up the tank but don't know how else to keep it warm. Rod
Should be no worries this time of year!
Aqua Addict
Your fish will be fine, the fall in temp will be slow enough not to stress them and it wont fall enough to do any harm, most people don't run heaters this time of year anyway. Ken-f
I'm hoping so.... But I've been keeping my tank at 30 degrees and just hoping it won't drop too much Sent from my HTC_PN071 using Tapatalk
shawry74
Haven't had my heaters on since sept, haven't had a drama. temp runs at about 25-27 degrees with no problems.
Ken-f
Back up and running, 10 hours later!
grubby
Space blanket covering the whole tank, baggy at the top to provide a cushion of air does the trick, I keep firemouths and peps in an outdoor tank all through winter with this method. What are you keeping that would have you stressed out about temp drop in Qld in November ? I haven't had a heater in a tank since September. Ken-f
Thanks for the replies. Was glad the power came up not long after posting. I just started to keep discus and the internet makes it seem like they are the hardest fish to keep. Probably being over concerned, but I only want to see them doing well. Edit: Btw, is now a good time of year to catch rainbowfish?

Trent2591
Get solar, I'm running around 3000 watts of heating and producing 1500kwh of power a day, haven't had a bill since we got them put on. peterw
I have 10 tanks outside under pergola. They get bubble wrapped at night in winter. No heaters no wrap for last 6 weeks.
grubby
Yes now is a good time to catch Rainbows. I caught a nice school of Crimson spots yesterday in Samford Ck, saw a stunning red belly black snake.
