Convict breeding

Recommended Posts

I have a female convict alone in a tank with a few bristlenoses. This morning she filled a pot with eggs of a golden colour. I've read somewhere that un-fertilized eggs are white? If I picked up the pot and put in the tank with my male, would he fertilize them without the mother in the tank? What are rules on cross species breeding? Is it possible? New breeder, and as you can see I have no idea...any help is welcome. :)

You only have a minute before the micropyle on eggs close which will prevent any fertilization. Its triggered by water contact. If you were to artificially fertilise before this then cross breeding is quite possible. Convicts will also cross breed naturally with a wide range if other fish species.
