Seeding sponge filters

Recommended Posts

I've got 10 spongies that I want seed and use as soon as possible.

If I have a tank of water that is cycled and then clean a heap of my existing sponges in that tank and then run the new ones in there for a day or so!!!

How long before I could use them. ???

What are your thoughts.

Cheers Marty

Hi Marty,

They say that sponge mud is very rich in bacteria but there is also a large degree of waste in there as well .

If you have two or more sponges in existing tanks just rotate a new one for a used one feed lightly till they get established .

Any spare ornaments , substrate or plants from other tanks will have beneficial bacteria on it .

Or use some filter media out of your sump and place in a bag in the new tank .

Another discus tank Marty ?

Cheers Mark.
