silverfighter
Hi I'm filling my tank with water. I read some where to do it in three stages and to let the tank settle in between. How long should I leave it before adding the next lot of water? I have a 4x2x2.
Isee
I wouldn't call a 4x2x2 a "big tank". Personally, I would fill it up unless you are concerned with possible leaks or flooring support in which case you might have a reason to do it in stages. I would consider a big tank to be 8ft+
silverfighter
Lol to true couldn't imagine putting an 8" in my tiny apartment. Thank you.
Donny@ageofaquariums
I just add dechlorinator for the total volume. then run hose on lawn for 30 seconds. then put hose in tank and fill it up but yea if you are worried about leaks, doing it in stages is not a bad idea really. Did you remember to put styrofoam between tank and stand?
silverfighter
I got everything with my tank but the styrophome is a bit dented up will that cause problems? I can't move the tank by myself so replacing it is going to be impossible.
silverfighter
Another quick question Do I need to do a full test of the tank or just ph?
Donny@ageofaquariums
Depends how bad the denting is, but any foam under a tank is better than none! Another quick question Do I need to do a full test of the tank or just ph? I reccomend getting an api freshwater master test kit. $42 and it will turn you from a n00b into a pro in no time. silverfighter
I can't seem to lower the ph I put a couple of doses of ph down in last night and it's still sitting at 8.2 this morning. Any hints. I also just tested the tank oscar is in now and it's saying 6.2. But the other readings are 0 so that's good. Do I raise the ph of the tank he is in over 1 day or many? mq_camo
Throw a couple of chunks of driftwood in your tank man, that will bring it down. Not sure where in the coast your are from but at noosa we are low 7's for tap water ph
mq_camo
Seriously I wouldn't stress about your oscars ph hey, just water change with tap water and prime an you'll be sweet. All readings were zero? Even nitrate?
silverfighter
Yep all readings 0 in both tanks
Donny@ageofaquariums
Stage it accross slowly. Oscars can handle from ph 6.0 to pH 8.0 But they dont like sudden pH change either up or down. Take your time. I would do some partial water changes on the tank the oscar is in now, just so it raises the pH higher. That way when you move it accross it wont be such a big difference. silverfighter
Is it normal for the water to go cloudy?
Yodapwnsasmurf
Is it normal for the water to go cloudy? It's an ammonia spike, personally I'd get some ammo block and cut the ammonia.
