Robbo89
More specifically peppermints, but the concept applies across all. Anyone have any experience?

Robbo89
Sorry, my main concern was that the 30C temp might be too high for the peps

Aqua Addict
Be careful, bristlenose and other algae eaters are notorius for eating the slime coat off discus at night. This stresses the discus and can lead bacterial diseases....
th3f0rg0t3n
I keep a gold-spot pleco / 1 adult male bristlenose and discus together - Edited April 17, 2014 by th3f0rg0t3n
lilviss
Aqua addict, i've heard that has happened once or twice but i wouldn't say they are notorious I know several people that keep discus and large plecos together who have never had an issue, and when i asked them about it they laughed Though all fish are different
Robbo89
With that in mind, should I risk it knowing that it could be a costly death ? I would be putting 5 sub adult peppermint bristlenose into a 1000l tank with 16 young discus
Aqua Addict
That's why I said be careful, not dont do it. It's just a risk you take. There's very few ray keepers that keep plecos in the same tank for that exact reason.
thatsright99
No, its those mongrel yoyo loaches and Chinese algae eaters that are,can be, a pain eating the slime coat.
lilviss
I wouldnt worry about bristlenose and discus slime coat, if anything worry about big plecos You'll be fine, turco has 20+ with his discus

BRISSY
I wouldn't put big plecos in because then can kill an adult discus relatively quickly and I wouldn't put adult (12cm+) bn with small discus. Large discus and large bn I have kept and all went well. Even when my tank went to about 34-35 degrees only one pep died and it was a baby. I had about 8 peps (mixed sizes) and 4 large discus in a 5ft.
QldMick
not experienced myself but what i do remember if your for serious about discus, aka breeding, bristlenose and alike can disturb the touchy discus at night, and may try feeding on the discus body surface by mistake, hence interfering with their slime coat and ability to feel content. cheers mick
turco
Bristlenose are fine with discus, plecos are something that I would be iffy with I would watch them
hugoboss
I have Discus and breeding colony of Peps and LF bristle noses... and other L numbers Together without any problem.. I do run my tank at 28 as I find the 30 temp is too hot for the plants.. My discus and peps have been together since my peps were juvie so about 3 years and not a problem... I do have a 3 foot high tank so I think that may help as the discus likes to swim around the middle and goes to the top at night.... I have never seen my catfish annoy my discus apart from flashing their tail at them occasionally when feeding..

My tank is 6.5 feet long by 2 wide and 3 high so hopefully like yours it will all work out just on your peps, do you remove the eggs from their logs when they breed or just let them grow out naturally ? Do you find the higher the temperature is the harder it is to get your Peppermints or BN to breed.
