Donny@ageofaquariums
Add some marine salt to the water. eg make it brackish. Good marine salt is high in calcium and magnesium. GH is a measurement of the amount of disolved calcium and magnesium in water.

Donny@ageofaquariums
Standard sea salt sold for human consumption is sodium chloride. Therefor it will not effect GH. Epsom salt is magnesium sulfate, so adding it will raise the magnesium. Therefor it will raise GH. Coral is calcium carbonate, so as it disolves it will raise the calcium. Therefor it will raise the GH (and the KH, as the KH is carbonates.) Adding proper marine salt, such as that used for marine aquariums, is the best solution IMHO as it raises GH, KH, salinity AND it raises them in the correct proportion. Sclero p
If you have room in your sump a mix of coral, oyster shells, and crushed limestone. Best limestone to use has dolomite, Calcium carbonate and Magnesium carbonate together. Sure I have posted this before somewhere. Pic of a drum set up for a pond not in use atm, crushed coral in bottom dolomite limestone in middle and oyster shells at the top easy to set up a sump chamber like this. blocka
No room left in the sump at the moment but I'll look into making a 6ft sump when I can find a suitable tank
