frontosarus
Hi Everyone, I have a 6x2x2 that I used to breed Frontosa in but sold the fish and shut the tank down, I'm setting it back up with water out of the tap but the sump is still full of the old water and media. Q1 Do I need to empty the sump and clean before adding 2 Calvus Q2 How long do I need to run the tank before adding the 2 Calvus. It may be a simple thing but it has been years since I have set up a tank lol. Cheers
lgw
1. So has the sump water been sitting for years? If so, I'd drain all the water and give the media a real good clean. 2. Have you heard of the nitrogen cycle? If not, give this link a read before you set up the tank. lgw
I'd drain it and give the media a clean just to be on the safe side
Lictoga
Yep drain and clean there's going to be next to no good bacteria in that sump and will just nuke your tank with ammonia
Mitch.0
The good bacterias only survive 6 hrs or so, unfortunately yours have way exceeded their used by date
mq_camo
Unless the sump has been running on it's own in circulation and the bacteria is being fed it's not going to work. The media I your sump will be dead and when you turn it on with your tank Hooked up you are going to pump that rotten water into your tank. Clean it all properly and start a cycle to be safe

drvolcom
If u had wet gravel thats a different story with water in between bacteria has been known to survive for almost a week in some cases
