Yodapwnsasmurf
With Africans, such as Blue Dolphins, it's better to overstock so as to limit aggression to one fish. But in my opinion, you'll be able to keep those fish together happily so long as you're talking about one of the Synodontis Catfish?

Donny@ageofaquariums
With the convicts you can spot the females easily usually as they have more colour on their belly. Convicts are rather tough fish and can be a bit much for some of the more chilled african cichlids. I would try to get blue dolphins that are larger than the convict, just to be sure. Most Malawi mbuna species can handle convicts quite well. Any chance of a picture of the tank, and some more detail on your filtration? Will give us an idea on how many fish the aquarium can handle, and also what are the best species considering the decorations.
