michaelandbrittany
Hey guys, I'm in the process of setting up my first marine tank, it will be 230L, I will be picking up my lights and wave maker today so I'm sorted with that. Will be looking into getting a skimmer next pay. Now my question really is, what media do I need, I'm not sumping it, (yes I have done my research about it) as there is limited room under the tank, and the glass isn't drilled. I will be using my aquael unimax 700 profesional. Also what skimmer should I use? I've seen there are skimmers that are built into a hob.filter? Any help would be muchly appreciated. BRISSY
What lights are you getting? What wave maker are you getting? What do you want to do with the tank? LPS, SPS, FOWLR? Makes a big difference to the gear needed. The marine sources RDC800 skimmers are very good from what I have heard, but again it depend on what you want to do with the tank. Also, the marine pure spheres are great media for in the filter.
michaelandbrittany
Not sure of the brand of light, will double check when I get home. The wave maker is an aquael 2600. I want to go fish and coral and what not. Gonna get some crushed coral for substrate. Not sure what my.next steps will be yet.

Donny@ageofaquariums
I'd start with one of those lights to evaluate its performance, and keep the option open to use it as well. Do you have a list of livestock you would like to keep in the aquarium?
michaelandbrittany
Yer I.probably should keep the other. Na I.don't have a list atm, the Mrs has made it quiet clear that I have to put a nemo in there. All ideas are welcome Oh also Donny, do you guys sell hob skimmers? I need one that will fit over a 5cm lip.
Donny@ageofaquariums
Have some, but we usually focus more on inline and insump models. Mainly as they can be more efficent, and theres less risk of them spamming micro air bubbles into the aquarium.
michaelandbrittany
What are inline skimmers?
Donny@ageofaquariums
Well it doesnt usually mean something thats easy to put into a canister hosing lol although that would be awesome. Rather its a skimmer that sits outside of the sump. Shouldnt have said inline as thats missleading. External would have been more accurate.
