cram
its pretty good - but probably not worth the trip from tokyo just to see it? Hope you have some other things planned? mind you, its not everyday you see a very big tank, with a very big fish in it....

Sneakypead
Pics look great, but overall is it worth going all that way in your opinion?
ado_84
Pics look great, but overall is it worth going all that way in your opinion? well if you have time and money to burn yes. but from tokyo its 8 hours transit there and 8 back so it really takes 2.5 to 3 days from your trip. i spent 4 hour (in two visits) in the aquarium, two hours going the the grounds and meseumes? and about an hour and a half around the tanks external to the aquarium, so it is a full day of exploring. however the time it takes out of the holiday is significant and there is nothing to do apart from the cultural centre where the aquarium is. there in no night life and it is there quiet season.. i'm glad i went but wouldnt go again. the extra 3 days in tokyo would have been more fun. we got there on bullet train, jetstar, bus. we left tokyo at 6 and got there about 230pm coming back the bus left at 5am, got back to tokyo at 1.30pm you can't compare it to underwater world here, it is quite awsome but if you have limited time i'd reconsider. there is another large aquarium under the 'skytree' just north of tokyo they dont have whales but, i didn't go there but would have if i didn't get to Okinawa going up the 450m up to the viewing platform at the skytree is well worth it to. hope this helps Edited June 12, 2014 by ado_84

aquaholic99
There are over 125 public aquariums in Japan (that I have been to). Some of them quite small, some of them impressive, some of them quite specialised. Quite a few in & around Tokyo. Osaka has whale sharks as well. Sumida Aquarium in Skytower is pretty average IMO. China's Chimelong aquarium is the worlds biggest aquarium now. If you are still in Tokyo, and want to do something un-fish related, go to the Robot restaurant - Japan Robot Restaurant
